Sky Sports host Jo Wilson has shared her experience battling cancer, expressing her initial fear of death and mental preparation for the worst upon receiving the diagnosis. Diagnosed with cervical cancer in June 2022 during a routine smear test, the 41-year-old underwent a challenging period as the cancer had spread to her lymph nodes, necessitating six weeks of treatment before receiving the all-clear in June 2023.
Having joined Sky Sports in 2011, Wilson underwent radiotherapy, chemotherapy, and brachytherapy to combat the cancer, although the treatment induced early menopause, significantly impacting her career as a presenter. The diagnosis came shortly after the birth of her daughter Mabel in 2020, amplifying the emotional turmoil she faced throughout the journey.
In a Sky Sports News documentary titled “Football, Cancer, and Me,” Wilson candidly discussed her ordeal with colleague Emma Saunders and former manager Tony Mowbray, both of whom have battled cancer themselves. Mowbray disclosed his bowel cancer diagnosis from the previous year, while Saunders underwent surgery due to a brain infection following a thyroid cancer diagnosis, leaving her partner, football manager Will Still, shocked by the visible scar.
Reflecting on the challenges faced, Wilson emphasized the importance of early detection and seeking medical attention promptly if something feels amiss. The documentary sheds light on the personal struggles of individuals in the sports industry dealing with cancer, highlighting the resilience and support within the community.
Furthermore, Sky has announced a significant reduction in the price of its Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle for the 2025/26 season, offering savings and access to over 1,400 live matches across various sports leagues, including the Premier League and EFL. With an increased number of live Premier League games, as well as coverage of Formula 1, darts, and golf, Sky aims to enrich the viewing experience for sports enthusiasts.
