A tragic incident unfolded as a teenager on his way to a school dance was fatally shot by a young family member who accidentally discharged a firearm, according to authorities. Isaac Brocco-Rivera, 18, was discovered unresponsive in his vehicle near a park in Lorain, Ohio, around 6:45 pm on October 18. Emergency services rushed him to a nearby hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Initial investigations revealed that the teen was unintentionally shot by a young relative while both were inside the car. The child was reportedly handling the gun when it discharged, hitting Isaac with a bullet.
Police found a handgun at the scene initially, but later located another weapon believed to have been used in the shooting. This weapon has been sent for forensic analysis.
Captain Jacob Morris of the Lorain Police Department noted the presence of many people in the park taking photos for a homecoming dance event.
A fundraiser on GoFundMe has been set up to assist Isaac’s family with funeral expenses, stating that he never returned home after heading to his senior homecoming. The fundraiser has already raised $19,290 (£14,495) of its $20,000 (£15,000) goal.
Lorain City Schools confirmed that Rivera was a senior at Lorain Success Academy. The school’s headteacher, Dr. Jeff Graham, expressed condolences and informed that additional details could not be shared as the police investigate the circumstances surrounding the incident.
Support services will be made available for students and staff as needed, with a message urging everyone to cherish their loved ones during this challenging time.
