Markham is gearing up for an exciting weekend as it hosts the NTT IndyCar Series for the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy event. This marks the first time the race will be held outside of Toronto, featuring a new track layout spanning 3.52 kilometers with 12 turns.
To facilitate access to the event, attendees are encouraged to utilize GO Transit, York Region Transit, or drive via Highway 407, with parking available west of the event grounds. Metrolinx is enhancing Stouffville Line services with additional trips, while York Region Transit will offer increased service frequency. Shuttle services will run between designated parking lots and the event grounds in Markham.
Residents have experienced disruptions due to track construction, including limited parking at Unionville GO and road closures on Enterprise Boulevard, Kennedy Road, YMCA Boulevard, University Boulevard, and South Unionville Boulevard until Monday morning, with some restrictions extending until August 27 for track dismantling.
The main event, the IndyCar race, will feature Spaniard Alex Palou as the points leader and favorite to win, having secured six victories this season. Notable contenders include Mexico’s Pato O’Ward, Americans Kyle Kirkwood and David Malukas, Denmark’s Christian Lundgaard, and Dutchman Rinus Veekay. Local talents such as Anthony Martella and Chase Pelletier will also showcase their skills in support races.
Drivers have praised the Markham track’s smooth surface and unique layout, offering elevation changes and challenging sections. Ticket information for the weekend’s races is available on the event website, with Friday’s practice and qualifying sessions open to the public for free as part of Fan Friday, with donations encouraged to support Make-A-Wish Canada.
