The union representing WestJet cabin crew has disclosed specifics of the tentative agreement made with the Calgary-based airline after a brief one-day strike. The Canadian Union of Public Employees (CUPE) revealed that the deal entails an increase of over 18% in wages spread across three years. Additionally, a new “duty period premium” has been introduced to provide compensation for ground work. The agreement also encompasses extended time off, elevated food and uniform allowances, and other perks.
Over the recent extended holiday weekend, WestJet flights in many parts of Canada were halted as approximately 4,400 flight attendants prepared to strike. However, a tentative agreement was reached between the airline and the union in the early hours of Monday, leading to a gradual return to normal operations for WestJet.
The cabin crew members are scheduled to vote on the agreement in the upcoming weeks.
