A beloved live content creator who shared her journey battling cancer online has passed away shortly after announcing her recovery to her followers. Chen Meiying, a 39-year-old mother, lost her life on October 12 following a year-long struggle with triple-negative breast cancer, a highly aggressive form of the illness. Her diagnosis in 2024 forced her to close her small clothing store and depleted her family’s savings with mounting medical expenses.
Turning to livestreaming on TikTok, Meiying sang traditional songs on camera for donations despite her health challenges. Originally from Chongqing, China, she maintained a positive and cheerful demeanor in front of her 17,000 followers, always wearing a smile.
In a surprising turn, Meiying removed her IV line on April 16, proclaiming herself cured, only to have the cancer return just two months later, spreading rapidly to her bones and lymph nodes. Despite being told there was no cure, Meiying remained resilient, with her teenage daughter being her primary motivation. She continued her daily routines, including school runs, even amidst pain.
Her final social media post was on September 22, and she was hospitalized again on September 26. Meiying passed away on October 12 and was laid to rest in her hometown shortly after, leaving behind her elderly mother. She once shared an inspiring message, saying, “You can be poor, you can be tired, but you cannot be unhappy, because unhappiness makes you sick.”
Triple-negative breast cancer is a particularly aggressive type of invasive breast cancer with limited treatment options and a challenging prognosis. It tends to grow and spread rapidly, especially in women under 40, according to Cancer Research UK. While rare in men, it can also affect them.
