A 28-year-old teacher, Teresa Whalin, is accused of engaging in sexual activities with a 14-year-old student and subsequently harassing him after their relationship ended. Allegedly, Whalin had a sexual affair with the student and shared nude images with him. She purportedly used fake phone numbers to contact him.
The student reportedly faced mental health challenges following the alleged relationship, which commenced in April 2023. According to an affidavit, the student referred to their interaction as “dating,” involving Snapchat messages, dining out, and spending time together in the teacher’s classroom.
After the student terminated communication with Whalin, she allegedly began stalking him, citing difficulties with the breakup. The affidavit mentioned instances where Whalin drove to the student’s residence and appeared along his school route in Denver, Colorado.
Upon disclosing the alleged sexual misconduct to a school counselor, police were notified and subsequently arrested Whalin on the same day, as reported by the Denver Post.
During police questioning, Whalin purportedly confessed to engaging in a sexual relationship with the student, sharing nude photos, and creating fake phone numbers to contact him anonymously, hoping he would seek her assistance.
Whalin faces charges of sexual assault on a child by someone in a position of trust, internet exploitation of a child, and stalking. She is currently held at the Douglas County Detention Center on a $50,000 (£37,907) bond.
The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office confirmed that Whalin has been employed by the Douglas County School District since July 2021 and is on administrative leave. The school district has been informed of the arrest and is cooperating with the investigation.
The incident is under investigation, and updates will be provided as the case unfolds.
