Keir Starmer has condemned a recent attack on a warehouse in London, attributing it to Russian influence and highlighting the threat posed by Vladimir Putin’s government to the UK.
During a press conference alongside Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, Starmer emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating that the sentencing of six individuals for a Russian-backed arson attack on a warehouse in East London underscores the risks faced by Britons. The targeted warehouse housed humanitarian aid and satellite equipment intended for Ukraine, emphasizing the interconnectedness of security concerns.
Starmer accused Putin of prolonging the conflict and criticized his recent actions targeting civilians and energy infrastructure, illustrating Putin’s lack of willingness to cease hostilities. He highlighted the tragic casualties, including a 12-year-old girl and a six-month-old baby, as a result of Putin’s actions, underscoring the humanitarian toll of the conflict.
In a judicial statement, Judge Bobbie Cheema-Grubb linked the arson attack to a broader campaign of terrorism and sabotage orchestrated by the Russian state through the Wagner paramilitary group. The orchestrator of the attack, British national Dylan Earl, received a 17-year prison sentence for his role in causing extensive damage to the warehouse owned by a Ukrainian couple who supplied satellite communication devices to Ukraine for military use.
Zelensky urged international allies not to entertain any concessions that would favor Russia in the conflict, emphasizing the importance of a fair resolution that upholds Ukraine’s territorial integrity and discourages future aggression.
Starmer dismissed Putin’s territorial demands as unreasonable and reiterated the unity among a coalition of nations supporting Ukraine’s cause for a just and lasting peace. The international community, including the US, stands firm in its commitment to ending the conflict and holding Putin accountable for his actions.
The Prime Minister emphasized the need for a strong and fair solution to the conflict, highlighting the unwavering support of over 30 nations in the coalition of the willing. He reiterated the collective determination to pressure Putin into accepting a peaceful resolution, underscoring the resolve to prevent any unjust outcomes in the conflict.
In a joint effort with international leaders, the call for peace and justice in Ukraine remains a top priority, signaling a united front against Russia’s aggressive tactics and calls for territorial concessions that undermine Ukraine’s sovereignty.
