One fatality and at least four individuals suffered severe injuries following a tornado that struck an area located just 10 miles north of Paris. The Val d’Oise region in France experienced the impact of the sudden and unusually intense tornado, leading to the collapse of three cranes and the destruction of roofs by powerful winds. The incident resulted in the death of a 23-year-old construction site worker, with a total of ten victims reported at the site.
Emergency response teams, including 80 firefighters, 50 police officers, and 20 ambulance service members, were deployed to address the aftermath of the tornado in the residential neighborhoods of Ermont. Roads and railway lines in the affected area remain closed as cleanup operations continue into the night.
According to the Keraunos observatory, the tornado’s origin was likely a supercell-type storm, characterized by rotating updrafts that can generate severe weather conditions like large hail, damaging winds, and tornadoes. French authorities, including interior minister Laurent Nunez, are closely monitoring the situation and extending support to the affected communities.
