David Malukas set the pace with the quickest practice lap during the Ontario Honda Dealers Indy event in Markham. In the second training session of the day, Malukas clocked a time of 1 minute 14.194 seconds. Qualifying rounds are scheduled for the evening.
Following Malukas, Alex Palou secured the second-best time with a lap time of 1:14.560, while Dennis Hauger claimed the third spot with a time of 1:14.592 navigating the Markham downtown road course.
The organizers faced a setback on the first day as track sessions had to be canceled due to the unfinished course and pending safety inspections.
Markham is hosting the race for the first time this year after relocating from Toronto’s Exhibition Place, its home since the inaugural race in 1986.
Earlier in the morning’s first practice session, Palou topped the charts with the fastest time of 1:14.9915.
