The Ogun and Lagos State Governments issued a joint statement addressing the recent car accident involving Anthony Joshua in Nigeria. The renowned boxer sustained minor injuries in the crash, which tragically resulted in the deaths of two individuals.
Both states confirmed that Anthony Joshua was involved in a road traffic incident on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. The collision occurred between the vehicle carrying a group of four individuals, including Joshua, and a stationary truck.
Expressing condolences to the families of the deceased, the governments assured that Joshua and another passenger were promptly taken to a specialized medical facility in Lagos. Medical assessments confirmed their stable conditions with no immediate need for emergency medical procedures.
Medical teams are closely monitoring Joshua and the other individual, ensuring they receive optimal care. The governments are actively overseeing the situation and have initiated investigations into the accident’s circumstances.
Acknowledging public concern, the statement requested privacy for Anthony Joshua and his family during this challenging period. The announcement was endorsed by Kayode Akinmade, the Special Adviser on Media to the Governor of Ogun State, and Gbenga Omotoso, the Commissioner for Information and Strategy for Lagos State.
The incident involved a black Lexus Jeep driven by Joshua, colliding with a stationary lorry on the Lagos–Ibadan Expressway. According to the Federal Road Safety Corps of Nigeria, the crash involved two vehicles and resulted in two fatalities, one injury, and two individuals escaping unharmed.
Preliminary investigations suggested that the Lexus Jeep, potentially exceeding the speed limit, lost control while overtaking and collided with the parked truck. The injured party received medical attention, while the deceased were taken to Livewell Morgue, Ajaka, Sagamu, with the Nigeria Police Motor Traffic Division notified for further investigation.
