“Stephen Lawrence’s Mother Slams Killer’s Lack of Courage”

The mother of Stephen Lawrence has criticized one of his killers for his lack of courage during his parole hearing and his refusal to identify the other individuals involved in the crime.

Baroness Doreen Lawrence expressed her disappointment after observing David Norris’ parole proceedings at the Royal Courts of Justice. Norris, who was convicted of Stephen’s murder in 2011, declined to face the camera or disclose the identities of the other perpetrators present on the night of the incident.

Outside the court, Lady Lawrence stated that she did not believe Norris’s apologies and referred to him as a coward for not confronting her directly. Norris, now 49, was sentenced to life imprisonment with a minimum term of 14 years and three months in 2012. This hearing marked the first review of his potential release since his minimum term expired in December 2024.

During the hearing, Norris avoided revealing the names of his accomplices, citing concerns for his family’s safety. He also denied using racist language while incarcerated. Despite expressing remorse for Stephen’s death and acknowledging his guilt in 2018, Lady Lawrence emphasized that Norris’s lack of transparency and continued deceit signaled that he was unfit for release.

She urged the authorities to investigate further and uncover the truth about the murder, stressing that Norris’s cooperation was crucial in bringing all responsible parties to justice. The parole board’s decision on Norris’s release is pending, with the Justice Secretary opposing his potential freedom.
