“Demon Hunter vs. Netflix: Trademark Clash Over ‘KPop Demon Hunters'”

A legal battle is brewing between Christian metal band Demon Hunter and streaming giant Netflix over alleged trademark infringement related to the movie “KPop Demon Hunters.” Demon Hunter’s parent company, Hyde Lane Inc., has filed a lawsuit claiming that the film’s title is too similar to the band’s trademarked name.

Formed in Seattle in 2000 by brothers Ryan Clark and Don Clark, Demon Hunter has a long history in the music industry, releasing 13 albums and achieving significant sales figures. Netflix’s “KPop Demon Hunters,” released in June 2025, has become a massive hit, garnering over 325.1 million views by March.

The legal complaint highlights instances where individuals have mistaken Demon Hunter for the characters in the movie, leading to confusion and misattributions. Social media users have even used the band’s hashtag when discussing “KPop Demon Hunters,” further adding to the mix-up.

Demon Hunter’s legal representation has emphasized the importance of protecting intellectual property rights and preventing such confusion in the marketplace. In response, Netflix has stated that the allegations are baseless and that they stand by the success and impact of “KPop Demon Hunters.”

The lawsuit underscores the clash between artistic creations and commercial interests, with both parties gearing up for a legal showdown to defend their respective positions.
