A trial involving stalking allegations has seen early clarification that one of the accused individuals is not Madeleine McCann. Scientific evidence presented in the court confirmed that Julia Wandelt, a 24-year-old from Lubin, Poland, has no biological connection to the McCann family, despite her claims suggesting otherwise. Wandelt and Karen Spragg, a 61-year-old from Cardiff, are facing charges of stalking Kate and Gerry McCann from June 2022 to February of this year.
During the proceedings at Leicester Crown Court, Wandelt became emotional upon hearing the prosecutor assert that she is not Madeleine McCann. The court was informed that Wandelt had been trying to convince others of her identity as Madeleine since June 2022. The prosecutor highlighted Wandelt’s persistent claims of being abducted and raised in Poland, believing she was Madeleine McCann.
The prosecutor emphasized the distress caused to the McCann family by the ongoing attention and conspiracy theories surrounding Madeleine’s disappearance. Wandelt was accused of seeking to persuade Madeleine’s younger sister that they were related by sending images. The trial, focusing on the events surrounding Madeleine McCann’s disappearance in 2007 during a family holiday in Portugal, is ongoing.
