“Teen convicted of planning and killing girlfriend’s grandmother”

A teenager has been found guilty of murder for planning and carrying out the robbery and killing of his girlfriend’s grandmother. Uriah Lee Urick Jr. was convicted on November 7 for the murder of 61-year-old Tammy King in February. Evidence presented during the trial revealed that Urick, along with his then 17-year-old girlfriend Tara King, meticulously planned the robbery and murder, discussing kidnapping, killing Tammy, and stealing her money, drugs, and weapons through text messages.

The court heard that the teens mentioned having ammunition capable of causing severe harm and set a time to commit the murder. Urick referred to the killing as the beginning of their future together. Tammy was shot in the head at her home in Bacliff, Texas, with her body discovered days later during a welfare check.

Following the murder, investigators discovered that the teenagers stole cash from a lockbox, leading to a charge of capital murder. They also found large sums of money transferred from Tammy’s bank account to Tara’s Cash App. Court documents revealed that Urick’s mother expressed concerns about his violent tendencies, while a witness testified that Urick offered money to help cover up the crime.

Defense attorney Bill Agnew argued that the murder was not premeditated but a result of drug-influenced teenagers seeking independence. However, the capital murder conviction in Texas carries a mandatory life sentence without the possibility of parole. Galveston County Sheriff Jimmy Fullen remarked that justice had been served, and Tara King is set to face trial for capital murder in January 2026.
