One of the victims of the tragic incident at a synagogue in Manchester was hailed as a hero during his funeral. Adrian Daulby, aged 53, bravely stood up to protect others by blocking the doors as the attacker, Jihad al-Shamie, attempted to gain entry.
Adrian Daulby, along with Melvin Cravitz, lost their lives on Yom Kippur, the holiest day in the Jewish calendar, at Heaton Park Hebrew Congregation Synagogue in Manchester. Mourners gathered at Agecroft Jewish Cemetery in Salford to pay their respects.
Rabbi Daniel Walker, who was present during the attack, praised Mr. Daulby’s courageous act, mentioning that he acted in the same place where his father and grandfather used to sit. He described Adrian as a quiet man who transformed into a hero in the face of danger, holding the doors against the assailant.
Mr. Daulby’s family members expressed their deep sorrow, emphasizing his heroic sacrifice and the love he received. It was noted that he had overcome cancer and had increased his visits to the synagogue following his father’s passing a few years ago. Unfortunately, he was unintentionally shot by armed police during the chaotic event.
The assailant, Jihad al-Shamie, who had a criminal record and was out on bail for an alleged rape, was shot dead by the police. Three individuals remain hospitalized due to severe injuries sustained during the attack.
The community mourned the loss of Melvin Cravitz, whose family described him as someone always willing to lend a helping hand. His funeral took place in Pendlebury, where his loved ones paid tribute to his compassionate nature.
