Rishi Sunak has secured a new role following his departure from No10, adding another accolade to his professional portfolio. The former Conservative Prime Minister, who continues to serve as the MP for Richmond and Northallerton, is actively seeking to regain prominence. He has taken on a new responsibility as a weekly columnist for a renowned publication, marking yet another addition to his list of commitments following the historic electoral defeat suffered by the Tories.
Sunak will now contribute a weekly column to the Business section of the Sunday Times, both in print and online, starting this weekend. Described by the newspaper as an esteemed and respected figure, the politician will cover various topics such as business, technology, politics, and the economy in his columns.
In recent developments, Sunak has also assumed advisory roles at tech giants Microsoft and Anthropic, an artificial intelligence company. Additionally, he joined Goldman Sachs during the summer, where he previously worked in the early 2000s before transitioning into politics. The bank expressed its anticipation of Sunak’s valuable perspectives and insights on global politics and the economy.
Estimated to be worth £640 million alongside his wife Akshata Murty, according to the 2025 Sunday Times rich list, Sunak has committed the fees earned from his new column to The Richmond Project. This educational charity, founded by Sunak and Murty, aims to enhance children’s math skills.
Sunak’s appointment as a columnist at the Sunday Times has received clearance from ACOBA, the Advisory Committee on Business Appointments, which advises former Ministers and senior Civil Servants on post-office appointments.
Expressing his enthusiasm for the new role, Sunak stated: “As a long-time reader of The Sunday Times business pages, I’m honored to be joining a great team as a columnist. In an era of profound change, I’m really looking forward to a weekly conversation with readers about the forces reshaping the world economy, from global politics to technology.”
Ben Taylor, editor of The Sunday Times, welcomed Sunak to the team, praising his vast expertise and insightful perspectives that will assist readers in navigating the intricate business landscape. Taylor expressed confidence that Sunak’s rich experience on the global stage and in government will make his column a must-read every weekend.
