“Double Murderer Executed by Firing Squad in SC”

A 67-year-old double murderer, Brad Keith Sigmon, faced his execution on death row in South Carolina after brutally killing his ex-girlfriend’s parents. Following his daughter’s breakup with Sigmon, he invaded the home of David and Gladys Larke in Greenville County. The couple, who had been in a relationship for about three years, were attacked by Sigmon with a baseball bat, each receiving nine blows to the head in 2001. During the trial, it was revealed that David suffered severe head injuries. Sigmon also attempted to abduct Rebecca, but she escaped as he fired shots at her.

After an 11-day manhunt that ended in Tennessee, Sigmon was sentenced in 2002 and awaited his execution until early March 2025. Opting for a firing squad over the electric chair due to fears of being burned alive, Sigmon met his fate on March 8, 2025. Strapped into a chair in the South Carolina Department of Corrections’s death chamber, a hood covered his head, a target was placed on his chest, and three riflemen stood ready behind a curtain nearby.

Moments before the shots were fired at 6:05 pm, Sigmon’s lawyer read his final words, calling for love and advocating against the death penalty. The execution was witnessed by three members of the Larke family, along with Sigmon’s spiritual adviser. Sigmon’s chest moved several times after being shot with .308 Winchester Tap Urban bullets, sparking debates among experts about the level of pain inflicted on the victims.
