“Maximize Home Heating: Use Oven Heat Wisely”

A tip from a British Gas energy specialist suggests a clever way to heat your home without using your central heating system. Smart energy engineer Jessica Rawstron recommends keeping your oven door open after cooking to utilize the residual heat escaping from the appliance. By leaving the oven door ajar, the heat can slowly warm up your kitchen, providing additional warmth while you enjoy your meal. British Gas also advises on winter home preparation, such as sealing gaps around windows and doors to prevent draughts.

To ensure efficient heating, regularly bleed your radiators and schedule an annual boiler service. Parts of the UK are under yellow warnings for snow and ice due to plummeting temperatures this week. Energy bills have increased, with the average household paying around £1,758 per year for gas and electricity. The price cap controls unit rates and standing charges but doesn’t limit the total energy cost, which depends on usage. The price cap for pre-payment meters is now £1,711 annually, and for bill payment on receipt, it is £1,894. The price cap is revised every three months, with the next change expected in April 2026.
