Donald Trump has expressed his condolences to the Royal family amid the ongoing controversy surrounding Andrew Mountbatten Windsor’s association with Jeffrey Epstein, a convicted sex offender.
King Charles has initiated the process of revoking all royal titles from his disgraced brother, including the title of prince, and evicting him from the Royal Lodge. The pressure on the royals has intensified due to Andrew’s connection with Epstein and allegations by Virginia Giuffre that Andrew engaged in sexual activity with her when she was a minor.
During an interview aboard Air Force One, Trump commented on the King’s decision to strip Andrew of his titles, calling it a tragic situation and expressing sympathy for the family. On the same day, Defence Secretary John Healey announced the removal of Andrew’s honorary vice-admiral rank, which he received in 2015 and was his last remaining military title after surrendering others in 2022 following the Epstein scandal.
The Defence Secretary did not confirm whether Andrew would retain his medals, including the Falklands War campaign medal. The Ministry of Defence stated that their actions would align with the King’s decisions.
Sources within the Ministry of Defence are evaluating whether Andrew will revert to his previous rank of commander or lose his naval rank entirely. His Duke of York title has already been erased from the Roll of Peerages. Andrew has been linked with the Royal Navy since 1979, where he began his officer training and served as a helicopter pilot. His naval service concluded in 2001 with the rank of commander, but he received ceremonial promotions, reaching vice-admiral status in 2015.
