Anthony Joshua, the British heavyweight boxer, is facing more serious injuries following a devastating car accident in Nigeria. The incident occurred on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway when Joshua’s black Lexus Jeep collided with a stationary red commercial Sinotruck, resulting in the tragic deaths of his close friends, Kevin Ayodele and Sina Ghami.
The Federal Road Safety Corps of Nigeria released initial findings, stating that the crash involved two vehicles and five adult males. Two individuals lost their lives, one was injured, and two escaped unharmed. Joshua sustained minor injuries and was promptly taken to the hospital for treatment.
Concerns have arisen about the extent of Joshua’s injuries despite initial reports describing them as minor. Sources close to the former heavyweight champion suggest the possibility of more severe damage, including potential rib and knee injuries.
A video circulating on social media showed Ayodele playing table tennis with Joshua shortly before the accident. The tragic loss has prompted an outpouring of condolences, with Joshua’s promoter, Eddie Hearn, leading the tributes. Matchroom Boxing confirmed the passing of personal trainer Latz and strength and conditioning coach Ghami in a heartfelt statement.
Following the accident, Joshua was hospitalized for evaluation and treatment, with Matchroom Boxing and 258 BXG requesting privacy for those affected. Joshua is currently in stable condition and under observation as investigations continue into the cause of the crash.
