A woman formerly known for adult films is facing accusations of killing her former lover, who also happened to be her stepson’s father. Devyn Michaels, aged 46, was taken into custody following the discovery of the decapitated body of Jonathan Willette, also 46, with chemical burns in Las Vegas, US.
According to prosecutors, Willette’s body was found in a state of desecration with bleach and ammonia in his Las Vegas home. Michaels and Willette had a tumultuous relationship and had two young daughters together. Complicating matters further, Michaels was reportedly in a secret marriage with Willette’s adult son, establishing her as both Willette’s partner and daughter-in-law.
Last autumn, the adult film actress pleaded guilty to second-degree murder as part of a plea agreement that carried a 15-year prison term with a chance of parole. However, during her sentencing hearing in July, Michaels made a sudden claim of innocence, leading prosecutors to pursue a first-degree murder trial, which commenced recently.
In the trial’s opening statements, the lead prosecutor alleged that Michaels killed Willette because she desired to raise her children with his son, Deviere Willette, aged 29. While Michaels and Jonathan Willette were never officially married, she reportedly wed Deviere in 2021, stating that it was to assist with her medical concerns.
At the time of Willette’s death, the couple was purportedly planning to reunite for the sake of their children, but prosecutors argue that Michaels had different intentions. Presenting a family photo of Michaels, Deviere, and her children, chief prosecutor John Giordani informed jurors that Michaels envisioned a future with Deviere and her children, necessitating the removal of John from the equation.
During a polygraph examination, Deviere reportedly exhibited a strong physiological response when questioned about Willette’s death. Michaels allegedly confessed to striking Willette with a wooden spoon on the night of his demise, claiming she did not intend to kill him but merely wanted to incapacitate him so she could focus on her children.
Investigators suspect that Willette’s severed head was disposed of in the trash and eventually taken to a landfill. Prior to her scheduled sentencing, Michaels emotionally declared her innocence in court, vowing to continue fighting to prove it.
The trial is ongoing.
