A woman has shared the heartbreaking final moments of her husband before he was fatally injured under a burial vault, including the poignant voicemail he left behind.
Angel Anthony Rojas, an employee of Restland Funeral Home in the role of a machine operator, was involved in handling heavy burial vaults used to protect coffins and bodies. Tragedy struck on October 20 when a 2,000-pound vault fell on him while he was working in the storage yard.
In a desperate call for help, Angel left a frantic voicemail for his wife, Nataly Galaviz, just moments before the accident. The couple had been making plans to buy a home together but saw their dreams shattered abruptly.
Nataly, speaking to CBS News, recounted her husband’s plea for help and air as he was pinned under the vault. Despite efforts by Dallas Fire Rescue using hydraulic tools, Angel did not survive his injuries.
Known for his dedication to his work and compassion for grieving families, Angel, a father to three-year-old Angel Noel Rojas, was hailed as a valued employee by his wife.
Litigation attorney Matthew Graham, representing the family, criticized the lack of proper staffing at the funeral home and plans to file a negligence lawsuit. Nataly emphasized the need for accountability, stating her husband should not have been working alone.
Graham stressed the importance of preventing similar incidents in the future to honor Angel’s memory. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) is currently investigating the matter.
Efforts to obtain a comment from Restland Funeral Home by The Mirror have been made as the investigation continues.
