Three security personnel at a nightclub in downtown Winnipeg are facing assault charges following an incident that left a Winnipeg Sea Bears player with serious injuries earlier this month, according to authorities.
The player, Teddy Allen, was reportedly assaulted at the nightclub during the early hours of August 3 and subsequently hospitalized for his injuries. The three individuals, aged 35, 37, and 58, who were employed at the venue, were taken into custody on Wednesday and charged with assault causing bodily harm. They have since been released on undertakings.
Although the exact location of the nightclub was not disclosed by the police, it was revealed to be situated on Main Street, between Portage and William avenues. Allen, in a statement released by the team, mentioned that he has undergone medical examinations, received a diagnosis, and is currently recovering at home.
Expressing his dismay over the incident, Allen stated, “The assault ‘should never have happened nor should it happen to anyone for any reason.'” He also affirmed his resilience, mentioning, “The thing about my life is that when I’ve been knocked down, I get back up, which is exactly what I’m going to do now.”
