After enduring a chaotic airport experience with noisy children and a significant delay, my partner and I opted to seek refuge in the airport lounge despite the initial cost. Surprisingly, we discovered that we were eligible for a half-price discount.
Our journey from Tenerife to Scotland, originally scheduled to land at 11 pm, was delayed until 4 am, resulting in a considerable inconvenience. Fortunately, my partner’s membership with Monzo Premium provided us with a discount perk that we were unaware of.
Although the Montaña Roja VIP Lounge initially quoted €44 per person, the thought of paying €88 seemed steep. However, the amenities and serene environment justified the expense, sparing us from the cacophony of unruly children in the main terminal.
Ultimately, we paid around £48 in total, reducing the cost to £24 per person, much to our delight. The package included complimentary Wi-Fi, access to showers with provided towels, and unlimited food and beverages, including alcoholic drinks.
Monzo’s collaboration with LoungeKey offers discounted access to over 1,100 airport lounges worldwide for Monzo Premium and Monzo Max users. The flat fee of £24 per person per visit covers access for Max Family as well, with the requirement of strong customer authentication for the initial lounge visit.
While pre-booking is an option at some lounges, choosing to book on the day incurs an additional fee determined by the lounge itself, not Monzo. As Monzo advises, having the physical Monzo card during the first visit is essential, although providing the card number may suffice in some cases.
For those planning their next holiday destination, the choice of relaxing in an airport lounge could significantly enhance the travel experience. Share your thoughts on this possibility in the comments section below.
