A woman expressed deep regret for her actions towards an elderly dementia patient who saw her as a loved one. Amelia Doran shamefully admitted to using the elderly woman’s bank card to withdraw a significant amount of money over a period of approximately six months, stating she took advantage of the vulnerable individual.
The victim, who had previously fallen prey to theft while in a hospital bed, approached staff at a care home in Rainhill, Merseyside, in a distressed state after discovering the unauthorized withdrawals. Investigations revealed that Doran had withdrawn funds from the victim’s account multiple times, totaling around £3,600 dating back to December 2024.
In court, Doran admitted to committing fraud by exploiting her position of trust. Her defense lawyer acknowledged her remorse and shame, attributing her actions to personal struggles with alcohol, mental health issues, and grief over the loss of her parents. Despite being given a suspended sentence, Doran was ordered to undergo alcohol treatment and rehabilitation, along with a restraining order to prevent contact with the victim.
