“Teen Tragically Dies at Cinema, Leaves Legacy of Kindness”

A vibrant and sociable teenager tragically passed away after suddenly falling ill while watching a movie at a cinema. Kasey-Lei Greene, 13, from Sutton Coldfield, collapsed during a trip with a friend on September 4 at the Vox Cinema in Yas Mall, Abu Dhabi. Despite efforts by emergency services and medics to resuscitate her for two hours, she succumbed to a cardiac arrest.

Kasey had relocated to Abu Dhabi with her family 14 months ago for a fresh start. Her father, Marc, recounted receiving a call from her friend reporting that Kasey had collapsed at the cinema. Despite swift medical response with a defibrillator and ambulance, Kasey could not be revived. Described as bubbly, outgoing, and caring, Kasey was known for her ability to bring people together and make friends easily.

A devoted fan of Aston Villa and rapper Travis Scott, Kasey’s funeral in the UK was attended by over 600 people, with many more joining through a live stream from Abu Dhabi. The Greene family, who had moved to Abu Dhabi in July 2024, had planned to move into a house being built for them in the coming year. In memory of Kasey, her family initiated a GoFundMe campaign, “Kasey’s Wells of Life,” aiming to fund water wells in Africa to support communities in need.

Despite the heartbreaking loss, Kasey’s family finds solace in the outpouring of support and memories shared by those who knew her. Marc expressed gratitude for the messages received and highlighted the strength shown by Kasey’s younger brother, Kian, who was very close to her. The family’s initiative to provide water wells reflects Kasey’s spirit of kindness and the impact she had on those around her.
