“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” Swings to $700M Record

The latest Spider-Man movie, “Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” has set a new record by swiftly reaching the $700-million mark in North America in just 13 days. This achievement makes it the fastest film to hit this milestone in the region. Only a select few movies, including “Star Wars: The Force Awakens” and “Avengers: Endgame,” have accomplished this feat in a comparable timeframe.

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day,” a collaborative effort between Marvel and Sony, features Tom Holland reprising his role as Peter Parker for the fourth time. The film also stars Zendaya, along with popular Marvel Cinematic Universe characters like Jon Bernthal, Florence Pugh, Mark Ruffalo, and newcomer Sadie Sink. The storyline follows Peter Parker navigating a world where Spider-Man’s existence has been erased from memory, leading to personal and superhero challenges.

The movie’s success extends beyond the North American box office, as it has raked in $704.5 million domestically and an impressive $1.108 billion internationally within two weekends of its release. These numbers surpass the international earnings of its predecessor, “No Way Home,” which grossed $1.106 billion.

“Spider-Man: Brand New Day” has also achieved several other remarkable milestones, including surpassing “Avengers: Endgame” for the biggest domestic opening weekend, recording the highest-grossing first week in domestic box office history, and becoming the second-fastest film to reach $1 billion globally, trailing only “Avengers: Endgame” in that regard. Additionally, it has emerged as Sony’s highest-grossing release in 26 international markets.

The film’s success has sparked discussions about its darker tone and whether it maintains the essence of the Spider-Man franchise. Critics have raised questions about the balance between the webslinger’s personal struggles and crime-fighting responsibilities in New York.
