A mother who faced a significant blood loss during her daughter’s delivery commended the exceptional team that saved both her and her baby’s lives.
Harriet Paget, a resident of Farnham, Surrey, was admitted to St George’s Hospital in Tooting, southwest London after being diagnosed with placenta accreta, a rare and life-threatening pregnancy complication where the placenta grows deeply into the womb. This condition posed a severe risk during Harriet’s pregnancy, ultimately necessitating hospitalization before giving birth at 35 weeks.
Harriet expressed gratitude towards the dedicated staff at St George’s who provided care during her pregnancy and recovery, stating that their support made her hospital stay more bearable. She particularly acknowledged the team led by Consultant Ana Pinas, who oversaw the safe delivery of her daughter via planned c-section in May 2024. Despite losing a significant amount of blood during the procedure, Harriet and her daughter successfully recovered after receiving intensive care.
Ana Pinas highlighted the importance of teamwork in providing exceptional patient care, emphasizing Harriet’s case as a challenging yet rewarding experience. Harriet, deeply moved by the care she received, named her daughter after the consultant as a token of appreciation. She also participated in a charity event, raising over £5,000 for St George’s Hospital.
