Jamie Redknapp revealed that his oldest son, from his previous marriage to Louise Redknapp, initially struggled with the news of his new baby. The former footballer and his wife Frida Andersson welcomed their first child together in November 2021, shortly after getting married.
Their relationship began after Jamie’s split from Louise in 2017, and he chose not to delve into personal matters in his 2020 book. In a rare glimpse into post-divorce life, Jamie, 52, shared how his sons Charley, 21, and Beau, 16, reacted to his new chapter with Frida.
During an appearance on The Romesh Ranganathan Show, Jamie discussed the experience of becoming a father again in his late 40s, noting that he feels more at ease now. However, he admitted that breaking the news to his sons about expecting a sibling was challenging, especially with Charley, who didn’t take it well initially.
Despite Charley’s initial reaction, Jamie understood the upheaval his son felt after his parents’ split and subsequent remarriage. On the other hand, Beau adapted more easily to the news.
After giving their boys time to adjust, Charley and Beau have embraced their roles as older brothers to Raphael, who will soon turn four. Jamie has expressed pride in Charley’s maturity and role as a big brother in heartfelt social media posts.
Meanwhile, Louise Redknapp, Jamie’s ex-wife, shared her pride in Charley’s growth and achievements on his 21st birthday. She emphasized his positive qualities and encouraged him to continue excelling in life.
Louise is currently in a relationship with businessman Drew Michael and has expressed contentment with their bond. She mentioned enjoying their time together and praised his kindness. While she appreciates their connection, Louise is not focused on marriage plans at the moment, preferring to savor the present and see where their relationship leads in the future.
