“Missing Camper Found Alive After 9-Day Search”

After a tense nine-day search, a missing camper, Troy Milne, has been discovered alive in what he thought was a dire situation. Milne had disappeared on October 7 from Woodside Beach near Melbourne while venturing out for supplies, leaving authorities fearing the worst.

The 61-year-old, who was camping with his wife and has diabetes, prompted concerns of a medical emergency in the wilderness. These concerns escalated when he was spotted on CCTV at an Omeo service station looking disoriented the day after he went missing.

Following a widespread search east of Australia’s Victorian state, Troy was finally located on October 16 in the Gippsland region over 200km away from his initial campsite. Fire crews found him near Kirby Cross Track after responding to a nearby fire where his Jeep had become stuck and was inoperable. To attract help, Troy lit a fire near his vehicle.

Despite being without his insulin for a week, Troy survived by staying in the same spot for four days after his vehicle got bogged down in rough terrain. He was eventually rescued and taken to a local hospital where he was found to be in surprisingly good condition.

Acting Inspector Kris Hamilton of Victoria Police described the rescue as a “remarkable outcome,” emphasizing the challenges faced due to Troy’s disorientation from the lack of medication. The search efforts were aided by the fire that drew attention to Troy’s location, leading to his safe recovery.

Inspector Wayne Rothwell expressed relief in being able to inform Troy’s family of his rescue, attributing the success to the collaboration of emergency services. Troy’s story serves as a testament to resilience and the importance of swift response in such situations.
