“Lloyds Bank to Close 49 More Branches in 2026”

Lloyds Banking Group has announced the closure of an additional 49 branches in the upcoming year, bringing the total number of closures to 289 by the end of 2026.

The banking giant revealed that 218 branches will be closed by the end of this year, with the remaining 71 branches scheduled for closure in the following year. The planned closures for 2026 include 26 Lloyds branches, 10 Halifax outlets, and 13 Bank of Scotland premises.

Lloyds Bank has confirmed that employees affected by these closures will be offered alternative positions within the company, either at other branches or in different areas of the business, as reported by the Express.

In response to the branch closures, Link, the cash access network, has proposed establishing 11 new banking hubs to ensure essential financial services remain available in affected communities. This initiative reflects the ongoing trend in the UK banking sector as traditional branches are gradually phased out due to the increasing preference for online banking services, reducing the need for in-person transactions.

A representative from Lloyds Banking Group stated, “The way customers conduct banking transactions has evolved, with more than 21 million customers now using our apps for managing their finances. We are offering greater flexibility by combining digital convenience with personal assistance through our staff.”

“In addition to our app, customers can access banking services at any Lloyds, Halifax, or Bank of Scotland branch, the Post Office, or banking hubs, and deposit cash at over 30,000 PayPoint locations.”
