Labour has committed to cutting knife-related offenses by 50% within ten years, with recent data indicating a 5% decrease in knife crime incidents over the past year. Additionally, knife homicides saw an 18% decline during the same period.
Jones expressed optimism about the positive direction in tackling knife crime, attributing the progress to targeted policing efforts, increased police presence, and stricter knife sale regulations. She underscored the importance of collaborative efforts across government departments to prevent youth involvement in violence, particularly after significant cuts to youth services under previous governments.
While acknowledging the advancements made, Jones acknowledged the ongoing challenges and the need to further reduce knife crime numbers. She emphasized the government’s commitment to saving lives and creating safer communities through coordinated actions and support services for young people.
In contrast, Farage’s Reform party proposed a £17 billion initiative to halve crime rates, including unconventional measures like ‘Nightingale’ prisons and deporting foreign criminals. Farage’s plan involved reallocating funds from projects like HS2 and climate commitments to achieve these goals.
