Brighton & Hove Albion have secured the services of Promise David, a Canadian striker, for the upcoming Premier League season. David, who arrives on a season-long loan from Union Saint-Gilloise in Belgium, is set to join Brighton with an obligation to be purchased for a reported fee of $29.7 million US if specific criteria are satisfied.
Union Saint-Gilloise confirmed that David will be making his Premier League debut starting next season for a record fee for the Belgian club. The 25-year-old striker had an impressive stint at Union, scoring 41 goals in 82 matches and contributing to the club’s first league title in 90 years in 2025. He extended his contract with Union through June 2029.
Having represented Canada in the recent World Cup, David showcased his talent by scoring a goal despite limited playing time due to a hip injury. He has also made significant contributions to the Canadian national team, scoring four goals in 14 appearances. Originally born in Brampton to Nigerian parents, David initially played for Nigeria’s under-23 team but later switched his allegiance to Canada in 2025 following discussions with coach Jesse Marsch.
Brighton expressed their excitement about signing David, highlighting his exceptional goal-scoring ability, physical attributes, and international experience. Mike Cave, the sporting director of Brighton, emphasized David’s potential to thrive in their environment as he enters his prime playing years. Brighton, a consistent Premier League participant for nine consecutive seasons, finished in eighth place in the league standings last season. David’s move to Brighton marks another chapter in his diverse professional career, having previously played in Croatia, Malta, and Estonia before joining the Belgian league in 2024.
