Asda introduces a new price guarantee program, offering lower prices than Tesco, Sainsbury’s, and Morrisons on thousands of everyday items. Over 2,300 products, including fresh meat, produce, chilled goods, core groceries, and bakery items, are now priced more competitively than at rival stores.
Additionally, Asda is running a promotion in January where shoppers will receive 10% cash back in Asda Rewards Cashpot for all fresh produce purchases made in-store. Rachel Eyre, Asda’s Chief Customer Officer, emphasized the aim to provide budget-friendly options for families post-Christmas, focusing on consistent and transparent pricing without the need for a loyalty card.
In contrast, Asda faced a challenging Christmas season, with its market share dropping to 11.4% in the 12 weeks leading up to December 28, as reported by market analysts. The retailer experienced a 4.2% decline in sales during this period, marking its 22nd consecutive month of sales decrease. Competitors like Tesco and Sainsbury’s saw an increase in customer base during the same timeframe, widening the gap with Asda, the third largest supermarket in the UK.
Notably, Tesco recently announced its commitment to maintaining low prices on 3,000 branded products as part of its new Everyday Low Prices initiative, aiming to provide customers with consistent affordability.
