Alexandra Palace secures the hosting rights for the PDC World Darts Championship until 2031 under a new five-year agreement. The decision puts an end to speculations about the event being relocated within London or outside of England.
Starting from the 2026/27 season, the championship will be held in the Great Hall at Alexandra Palace, allowing for a capacity increase to approximately 180,000 spectators, up from 110,000 in the 2025/26 season. This enhancement will result in over 5,000 fans attending each session.
Since 2007, Alexandra Palace has been the esteemed venue for the World Darts Championship. PDC chief executive Matt Porter expressed excitement about the continued partnership, emphasizing Alexandra Palace’s iconic status in hosting the championship.
The move to the Great Hall in 2026/27 is seen as a significant milestone for the sport, overcoming previous obstacles. Emma Dagnes OBE, the chief executive of Alexandra Palace, highlighted the broader impact of events like the World Darts Championship in supporting the charity’s cultural and educational programs.
The current capacity of 3,300 supporters for the festive event will be significantly increased with the venue change. The agreement also includes support for Alexandra Palace’s Creative Learning Programme by the Matchroom Charitable Foundation, allocating £300,000 over three years for various initiatives.
World Champion Luke Littler reaffirmed his commitment to keeping the championship at Alexandra Palace, expressing reluctance to participate if the event were to be moved to Saudi Arabia. Meanwhile, the World Series is set to debut in Saudi Arabia in January, part of a global tournament circuit spanning different countries.
The PDC World Darts Championship is scheduled to kick off on December 11, with exclusive live coverage available through Sky’s Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle. Fans can catch all the action from the championship through this broadcasting partnership.
