Alanis Morissette Sues Ex-Manager for Blackmail

Alanis Morissette has taken legal action against her former tour manager, accusing her of engaging in a deliberate blackmail scheme to coerce the Canadian singer-songwriter into signing a lengthy contract. The lawsuit, filed in California and reported by CBC News, alleges that Keren Urinov threatened to report Morissette to British authorities for drug trafficking unless she agreed to hire her as a tour director for 15 years and provide significant compensation.

Morissette has brought charges against Urinov for civil extortion, fraud, and negligent misrepresentation, emphasizing that she will not succumb to the extortion attempts and is determined to expose the scheme. The lawsuit outlines the events that transpired during their time working together, highlighting instances where Urinov’s actions were deemed questionable.

The lawsuit details an incident in July 2025 when Urinov was arrested at an airport after a bag in her possession was flagged for containing marijuana and xylazine. Subsequently, Urinov allegedly made demands to Morissette following the tour, sending threatening letters insisting on a 15-year contract and additional benefits.

Additionally, Morissette accuses Urinov of mismanagement during the 2025 tour, citing an expensive mistake related to a hotel booking and revealing past criminal activities that were not disclosed prior to her hiring. Despite her reluctance, Morissette felt compelled to pursue legal action against Urinov, aiming to bring the matter to light and seek justice through a trial by jury.

Efforts to reach out to Urinov and Morissette’s representatives for comments on the lawsuit have not been successful.
