“Calgary Wild Upset Ottawa Rapid 4-3 in Northern Super League”

Serita Thurton netted two goals in the first half as the Calgary Wild, sitting at the bottom of the league table, caused an upset by defeating the Ottawa Rapid, the current league leaders, with a scoreline of 4-3 at McMahon Stadium during Northern Super League action on Saturday. Kahli Johnson opened the scoring for the hosts in the 15th minute, followed by Thurton extending the lead to 2-0 around 13 minutes later. Ottawa’s Jung Min-Young found the net in the 38th minute, and Melanie Forbes equalized at 2-2 just before halftime.

Thurton completed her brace just before halftime, securing the lead for the Wild, who maintained control throughout the second half. Jorian Baucom also got on the scoresheet for the Wild, who now have accumulated two wins, 12 losses, and two draws. Jyllissa Harris managed to score from a penalty kick in the 86th minute for the Rapid, who now have 10 wins, three losses, and three draws, ending their 10-match unbeaten run.

Despite having 54% possession, the Rapid were outshot by the Wild, with a tally of 16-13 (9-6 on target). The Wild earned six of the 11 corners in the game, while Ottawa received one yellow card and one red card.

In another match, Jessica De Filippo scored in the 57th minute to level the game and then struck again five minutes into stoppage time in the second half to lead the Vancouver Rise to a 2-1 victory over the Halifax Tides at Swangard Stadium in Burnaby, B.C. Jordyn Rhodes had initially put the Tides ahead with a goal in the 19th minute.

The Rise, occupying fifth place, dominated possession with 56%, outshooting the Tides 18-13, including 6-4 on target. The Tides had the advantage in corners, taking four out of the six awarded, while the Rise received two of the three yellow cards distributed during the match.
