Blockbuster romance writer Carley Fortune has revealed that her upcoming sixth book, titled “Only in Summer,” is set to be published on May 18, 2027. The novel transports readers back to Barry’s Bay, Ont., a familiar setting from Fortune’s earlier works like “Every Summer After” and “One Golden Summer,” as well as her hometown.
Fortune shared in a newsletter that she recently acquired a cottage near Barry’s Bay, fulfilling a long-held dream since her family home by the lake was sold. The protagonist of “Only in Summer,” Eleanor Florek, also harbors a similar aspiration of owning property in Barry’s Bay. Ellie, the cousin of characters Charlie and Sam from Fortune’s previous novels, is surprised to find out that her neighboring house is being demolished for a grand mansion by its new attractive owner.
While Fortune has not disclosed much about the plot yet, it’s anticipated that a hesitant romance will blossom against the backdrop of the lakeside locale. The author, based in Toronto, has an editorial background with notable publications like Refinery29, The Globe and Mail, Chatelaine, and Toronto Life. Her earlier works include “Our Perfect Storm,” “One Golden Summer,” “Every Summer After,” “This Summer Will Be Different,” and “Meet Me at the Lake,” which was a finalist on Canada Reads in 2024, championed by fashion influencer Mirian Njoh.
“Every Summer After” was adapted into the Amazon Prime Video series “Every Year After,” renewed for a second season based on “One Golden Summer.” Additionally, Netflix Canada is in the process of adapting “This Summer Will Be Different” into a 10-episode series.
