The Metropolitan Police is currently investigating fresh allegations concerning Prince Andrew, following the release of a controversial email claiming that the former duke tried to tarnish the reputation of his accuser, Virginia Giuffre.
Prince Andrew has consistently refuted claims that he engaged in sexual activities with Jeffrey Epstein’s accuser, Virginia, who passed away earlier this year at the age of 17. Despite denying any wrongdoing, his association with Epstein, a convicted sex offender, continues to overshadow his position within the Royal Family.
Having withdrawn from public duties five years ago, the 65-year-old prince has now voluntarily renounced the use of his titles and honors. This decision was reached with the approval of his elder brother, King Charles III. In a statement released by Buckingham Palace on Friday, Andrew announced his decision to forego his titles and honors in order to prioritize his family and country.
Recent revelations of alleged misconduct have surfaced, making it challenging for the Royal Family to address the ongoing concerns surrounding Prince Andrew.
According to the Mail on Sunday, it is alleged that Prince Andrew instructed his Met bodyguard, funded by taxpayers, to investigate Virginia by providing her personal information in an attempt to gather negative information. However, there is no evidence to suggest that the officer followed through with this request.
In a disclosed email from February 2011, Prince Andrew reportedly shared Virginia’s date of birth and social security number with his mother’s press secretary, indicating a desire to investigate her further.
A spokesperson for the Metropolitan Police confirmed that they are actively looking into these claims. Meanwhile, Virginia’s family has rebutted the claims, stating that she had no criminal record and demanding an inquiry into how Prince Andrew obtained her private information.
In a recent update from the Metropolitan Police, Victoria Derbyshire interrupted Sunday with Laura Kuenssberg to announce that an investigation will be conducted into allegations that Prince Andrew instructed his bodyguard to gather information on Virginia Giuffre, who accused him of sexual misconduct.
In response to this development, broadcaster Emily Maitlis, known for her impactful BBC Newsnight interview with Prince Andrew in 2019, expressed her support for the investigation.
