Karoline Leavitt faced backlash once again on social media after the White House Press Secretary attempted to fact-check a recent news post from Fox News. Earlier this week, Fox News shared a headline on X, previously Twitter, stating, “BREAKING: US troops sent to Israel to support historic peace deal.” The 27-year-old spokesperson responded, stating that the news was misleading and clarified that about 200 U.S. personnel already stationed at CENTCOM would be monitoring the peace agreement in Israel alongside international forces.
This development coincides with President Trump’s invitation to address the Israeli government following a hostage release agreement and ceasefire. Despite both Fox News and Karoline being correct in their statements, critics questioned the necessity of Karoline’s correction of the conservative news outlet.
The Israeli military confirmed a ceasefire in Gaza, approving the first phase of a peace deal to end the conflict. Approximately 200 U.S. troops in the Middle East will be relocated to Israel to oversee the plan’s implementation. The peace agreement is expected to result in the release of around 2,000 Palestinians from Israeli custody, including long-term detainees and Gazans held since October. Additionally, 48 Israeli citizens are set to be freed, with a small number believed to still be alive.
Hamas released a statement acknowledging the ceasefire and appreciating the efforts of mediators from Qatar, Egypt, and Turkey, as well as U.S. President Donald Trump, in ending the conflict and withdrawing occupation from Gaza.
