A firefighter from New York City tragically passed away while fighting a significant fire in Brooklyn on Saturday night. Patrick Brady, a veteran of the Fire Department of the City of New York (FDNY) for 11 years, suffered cardiac arrest on the roof of a burning building on Kings Highway in East Flatbush. Responding to reports of a fire on the sixth floor, Brady was part of an “all-hands” emergency response.
Despite immediate treatment by fellow firefighters and emergency teams, Brady was pronounced dead at Brookdale University Hospital. Alongside his tragic death, a second firefighter and two civilians sustained minor injuries during the incident. Mayor Eric Adams commended the bravery of firefighters like Brady, emphasizing their selfless dedication to protecting others.
Fire Commissioner Robert Tucker expressed the FDNY’s profound sorrow over Brady’s passing, highlighting his commitment to public service and firefighting. Brady, who came from a firefighting family, is survived by his wife Kara and his brothers Jimmy and Brian, both FDNY firefighters. This loss marks the second FDNY member fatality in the line of duty within the last two weeks.
