A 28-year-old woman named Lauren Willis has been sent to prison for driving her Volkswagen Golf into another driver during a road rage incident that occurred in Sittingbourne, Kent. The altercation between the two drivers began at a petrol station, where they argued about Willis’ driving before both drove in the same direction.
The confrontation escalated when they stopped near a roundabout on the A249 to continue their argument. Subsequently, an altercation ensued, leading to Willis getting back in her car and intentionally colliding with the man. The impact caused injuries to the man’s face, teeth, and hands as he was thrown from the car’s windscreen onto the road before Willis fled the scene.
Emergency services responded to the incident around 5 am, and the injured man was taken to the hospital and later discharged. Following an investigation by the police, Willis was arrested in Ware, Hertfordshire, two days after the incident. She was charged in June 2024 and later pleaded guilty to causing grievous bodily harm with intent at Maidstone Crown Court.
Willis, a resident of Gillingham, Kent, has been sentenced to three years and six months in prison and has been banned from driving for five years and nine months. Detective Constable Rob Sircar remarked that Willis’ actions that morning were extremely dangerous, causing significant harm to the victim. He expressed satisfaction with her imprisonment and emphasized the importance of preventing her from driving upon release.
Sircar also mentioned that he hopes the sentence brings comfort to those affected by Willis’ behavior and allows her time to reflect on her actions and make amends. Kent Police advises drivers involved in road traffic collisions to stop at the scene, switch off the engine, turn on hazard lights, and check for injuries. In cases of danger, serious injuries, suspected serious offenses, or road blockages, emergency services should be contacted immediately.
