“Ukrainian Children Rescued from Occupied Regions Face Disturbing Reality”

I recently came back from providing essential assistance to emergency responders and labor union members in Ukraine’s Donbas area. Despite facing daily challenges like power outages, missile attacks, and civilian casualties in various settings, Ukrainians remain determined for peace while refusing Russian control and the harsh conditions of occupation.

During my visit to the Save Ukraine center, I encountered children rescued from the occupied regions, where a significant number had experienced sexual abuse. Shockingly, over 20,000 children are reported as taken by Russia, indicating a widespread issue of child exploitation.

The situation is further complicated by the actions of sanctioned Russian figure Roman Abramovich, who is impeding a £2.5 billion transfer from Chelsea FC’s sale to aid Ukraine while engaging in legal battles over frozen assets in Jersey, with the support of a member from the Conservative Shadow Cabinet, Lord Wolfson KC.

The association between Lord Wolfson and Abramovich, aided by former Trump adviser Eric Herschmann, signifies a concerning return to normalizing interactions with Russian oligarchs. The defense that this is merely a lawyer-client relationship does little to instill confidence, especially amid the ongoing crisis in Ukraine.

The involvement of political figures like Nigel Farage and the push in the West, including the White House, to normalize ties with Moscow raises alarms. The urgency of the situation in Ukraine demands accountability and action, not business as usual with those connected to the Russian regime.

The failure to address the collaboration between Wolfson and a sanctioned oligarch raises valid concerns about the Conservative Party under Kemi Badenoch’s leadership. Upholding democracy requires holding them accountable for this concerning alliance.

The Labour government must now take decisive action by introducing emergency measures to prevent sanctioned oligarchs from exploiting the UK legal system and redirecting the nearly £30 billion frozen Russian assets in the UK to support Ukraine.

Ukraine is at the forefront of the fight for democracy and requires our unwavering support. Join us outside Tory Headquarters on Wednesday, January 7, at 5 pm to stand in solidarity with Ukraine and voice your support for their cause.
