Tiger Woods to Take Golf Hiatus Post-Back Surgery

Tiger Woods recently shared that he will be taking a break from golf following a back surgery he underwent in October. This surgery marked the seventh procedure specifically on his back and the third major operation within the past two years, following surgeries on his Achilles and ankle.

Despite his illustrious career that began nearly thirty years ago, Woods has been struggling with injuries, with his last major win at the Masters in 2019 after an 11-year gap. While he managed to host the Hero World Challenge tournament in the Bahamas, he acknowledged that his return to competitive play will be a lengthy process due to his recent setback.

Reflecting on his recovery, Woods initially joked about his potential comeback schedule before admitting that he needs to focus on getting back into playing shape first. He recently received clearance to resume chipping and putting after six weeks post-surgery, emphasizing the importance of gradual rehabilitation to ensure a successful return to the sport.

One of Woods’ key motivations for a return to golf is the opportunity to break the all-time PGA tournament wins record, currently tied at 82 victories with legendary golfer Sam Snead. Notah Begay III, a close friend of Woods, highlighted that the golfer’s primary challenge post-surgery is regaining mobility and comfort on the course, indicating a significant hurdle in his path to recovery and potential comeback.
