Four individuals implicated in a probe involving manufacturing explosives and firearms in London, Ontario, are now confronting 19 additional accusations, as per legal records submitted on Tuesday. Jerry Tong, Zekun (Alex) Wang, Fei (Frank) Han, and Feiyang (Astrid) Ji were initially charged in January. All four were either students or recent graduates of Western University, with the three men having backgrounds in the engineering field.
The revised roster of allegations presented to the Ontario Court of Justice now tallies up to 31 distinct charges. Some of the charges are collective against all four suspects, while others are specific to individual cases.
Among the latest charges are the possession of five specific explosive materials, possession of stolen goods, and unauthorized access to computer data related to firearm production.
The extensive investigation traces back to Jan. 24, when law enforcement responded to a trespassing incident at Western University after two individuals entered one of the engineering buildings overnight. Subsequently, one person was apprehended outside the building, leading to the detention of the other three at a residence in the nearby University Heights neighborhood.
A thorough search was conducted by the police at the residence on 212 Chesham Place, where Wang, Han, and Ji resided, as well as at two additional residences in Orléans, Ottawa, and Gatineau, Quebec.
Initially, upon their arrest, the quartet faced multiple firearms charges, including the manufacture of a handgun and possession of a loaded restricted handgun. Additional charges have now been brought against Tong, Wang, and Ji, encompassing possession of magazines and suppressors, along with another prohibited firearm. Tong and Wang are also accused of handling and carelessly storing a rifle.
Tong, who bears the brunt of the accusations, faces charges tied to events in other cities, including storing rifles in Orleans, manufacturing a prohibited firearm in Ottawa, and possessing a rifle at an unauthorized location in Quebec.
Court documents reveal that Tong possessed a firearms license, but some charges allege possession of a firearm at an unlicensed premise.
Wang and Tong are also implicated in events that transpired months prior to their apprehension. Wang is charged with manufacturing a weapon between Sept. 1, 2025, and Jan. 24, 2026, while both are accused of breaking into a Western building on Oct. 9, 2025.
Moreover, Tong, Wang, Han, and Ji are now facing a fresh set of charges for possessing explosive substances, specifically pentaerythritol tetranitrate (PETN), trinitrotoluene (TNT), dinitrophenol (DNP), hexamethylene triperoxide diamine (HMTD), and lead azide.
Additionally, all four are charged with possessing Western University property valued at less than $5,000. Wang faces an additional charge for accessing computer data relevant to firearms, particularly design files suitable for use with 3D printers or metal milling machines for manufacturing purposes.
In total, Tong faces 28 charges, Wang faces 20, Han faces 11, and Ji faces 13. Two of the accused are currently out on bail, while the other two remain in custody. Tong did not seek bail and remains detained, whereas Han’s bail request was denied, and he was remanded in custody in February. Wang was granted bail in March under stringent conditions, including 24-hour house arrest and supervision from two sureties who each posted $200,000. Ji is also out on bail without any sureties.
