Despite recent flooding in Las Vegas, the upcoming Formula 1 weekend is not expected to be affected by wet weather. Heavy rain hit the city on Tuesday, causing standing water on some streets, as seen in dramatic social media footage.
When Mirror Sport arrived on Tuesday evening, they witnessed cars navigating large puddles near Harry Reid International Airport. However, such scenes are common in a city located in the heart of the Nevada desert.
By Wednesday morning, the sun was shining again, and most of the standing water had evaporated. Mirror Sport visited the Linq Hotel, where many viral videos were filmed, and noted a significant reduction in standing and running water.
Although an F1 spokesperson declined to comment, there are no concerns about the weather affecting the track action this weekend. Showers returned on Wednesday afternoon during media day, but did not cause any standing water on the circuit.
More rain is forecasted for Thursday evening and Friday morning, but conditions are expected to improve over the weekend, with a dry race anticipated on Saturday night local time.
Race organizers are optimistic that the rain won’t deter spectators, especially with reduced ticket costs for the Las Vegas Grand Prix. Sales are up by approximately 50% compared to 2024, and the event is on track for a sell-out. Additionally, fans will enjoy extra track activity with the F1 Academy series finale as a supporting event.
In the championship standings, Lando Norris leads with a 24-point advantage over teammate Oscar Piastri, making him the favorite for the title. Max Verstappen remains in contention but would need significant luck to catch up, sitting 49 points behind the leader.
After Las Vegas, the F1 season will conclude with the Qatar and Abu Dhabi Grands Prix. Formula 1 fans can catch all the action live with Sky’s Essential TV and Sky Sports bundle, which also includes access to various TV channels, Netflix, and Discovery+ subscriptions.
