“Justice Secretary Demands Apology from Jenrick Over Judge Criticisms”

Justice Secretary David Lammy has called on Robert Jenrick to issue an apology for his criticisms of judges, citing concerns over the safety of legal professionals facing threats in the current hostile environment fueled by Conservative Party criticisms.

Jenrick has been leading a campaign to expose what he refers to as “activist” judges, advocating for the removal of 35 judges and asserting that corruption has permeated certain parts of the judiciary. He has also proposed abolishing the Sentencing Council, the Judicial Appointments Commission, and immigration tribunals.

Deputy Prime Minister, in response to questions posed by The Mirror during an event with OpenAI, emphasized the importance of respecting the independence of the judiciary and urged Jenrick to retract his inflammatory remarks to ensure the well-being of judges in their daily duties.

Various legal bodies, including the Bar Council of England and Wales, The Law Society of England and Wales, The Law Society of Scotland, Faculty of Advocates, The Bar of Northern Ireland, and The Law Society of Northern Ireland, have raised alarms regarding the risks posed to the judiciary by unwarranted attacks on lawyers simply carrying out their professional duties.

Jenrick faced backlash for his claims linking over 30 immigration judges to organizations supporting open borders, prompting criticism from refugee support charities such as Freedom from Torture and Care4Calais, who denounced his statements.
