“Putin’s Missiles Cause Widespread Power Outages in Kyiv”

Vladimir Putin initiated intense missile and drone assaults on Ukraine’s energy infrastructure overnight, resulting in widespread power outages in Kyiv. The strikes targeted several hydroelectric power plants and thermal generating stations, impacting critical areas like Kharkiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava, and Sumy.

Following the relentless seven-hour attack by Russian forces using various weaponry, including ballistic missiles and drones, a significant portion of Kyiv, particularly the left bank, was left without electricity. This assault, described as the most severe on Ukraine’s energy system in three years, caused up to 70% of the city to lose power temporarily.

The city’s residents were advised to conserve gas usage as a precautionary measure. In Kyiv, a high-rise building in the Pechersk district suffered damage, resulting in injuries to several individuals. The metro system experienced disruptions due to the power outages, exacerbated by Putin’s actions to limit Ukraine’s gas supplies ahead of winter.

Kyiv’s Mayor, Vitali Klitschko, assured that emergency teams were closely monitoring the situation and prepared to respond promptly. The lack of electricity on the city’s left bank led to additional challenges, including water supply disruptions.

In a tragic incident, a seven-year-old boy in Zaporizhzhia lost his life due to Russian strikes, marking another civilian casualty in the conflict. The Kremenchuk Hydroelectric Power Station and the Kryvyi Rih Thermal Power Plant, located in Volodymyr Zelensky’s hometown, were also targeted in the attacks.

Russian military sources boasted about the effectiveness of the strikes, emphasizing the strategic importance of disrupting the enemy’s energy infrastructure. Ukrainian officials warned their citizens to brace for potential challenges, foreseeing Russia’s attempts to undermine the country’s resilience by depriving them of essential services.

In response to the energy strikes, Ukraine vowed retaliation, threatening to retaliate against Russia’s infrastructure. The escalation in attacks came shortly after General Valery Gerasimov, Putin’s top war commander, promised further aggressive actions against Ukraine.

Putin, who recently turned 73, declared his intention to continue the conflict indefinitely, emphasizing the need to achieve military objectives decisively. Military analysts highlighted the systematic destruction of Ukraine’s energy facilities as a key focus of the ongoing operations, with the goal of weakening the enemy’s capabilities over time.
