Anna Huang Makes History with Four LET Titles

Last year’s CPKC Women’s Open marked a significant turning point in Anna Huang’s golf career. At just 16 years old, Huang missed the cut in Mississauga, Ontario, feeling uncertain about her future path. However, with the guidance of her caddie and coach Sean Burke, who focused on improving her putting skills, Huang’s game took a positive turn. Following the tournament, she went on to win consecutive events on the Ladies European Tour.

In a remarkable feat, Huang, at 17 years and 9 months old, became the youngest player to secure four LET titles, surpassing Lydia Ko’s previous record. Notably, she also triumphed over world No. 6 Charley Hull at the PIF London Championship, adding to her growing list of accomplishments.

Returning to this year’s CPKC Women’s Open with newfound confidence, Huang reflects on her journey from being a rookie with no wins to now having valuable experience from multiple LPGA events. The upcoming $2.75-million US tournament at Edmonton’s Royal Mayfair Golf Club will see Huang and other emerging Canadian talents, including Aphrodite Deng and Clairey Lin, both of whom received sponsor exemptions.

The surge of young Canadian golfers making waves in the sport has drawn attention, with players like Deng, who recently won the U.S. Girls’ Junior Championship, showcasing their skills on the international stage. Golf Canada’s NextGen coach Jeff MacDonald acknowledges the unprecedented success of these young talents, prompting questions about the remarkable developments in Canadian golf.

The CPKC Women’s Open will also feature established Canadian players like defending champion Brooke Henderson, Maude-Aimee Leblanc, and Savannah Grewal. The event will bring together a mix of seasoned professionals and promising amateurs, highlighting the depth of talent in Canadian women’s golf.

Despite initial challenges and doubts, Huang’s perseverance and dedication to the sport have paid off, leading to a series of victories and a growing fan base. With her father by her side as her caddie, Huang’s journey in professional golf continues to inspire as she prepares to compete in the upcoming prestigious tournament.
