Summer McIntosh clinched her first-ever gold medal at the Pan Pacific swimming championship by outpacing Jenna Forrester of Australia in the women’s 400-meter individual medley in Irvine, California. McIntosh set a new championship record, finishing the race in four minutes and 28.01 seconds. Forrester secured the silver medal with a time of 4:31.50, while Agostina Hein from Argentina claimed the bronze in 4:32.54.
The previous Pan Pacs record time of 4:31.99 was held by American Elizabeth Beisel since 2014. After her victory, McIntosh expressed satisfaction with her performance but acknowledged room for improvement, particularly in analyzing her race splits.
In a heartwarming moment, the Canadian national anthem resonated through the venue, eliciting excitement from a group of enthusiastic young spectators. McIntosh appreciated the support and was grateful for the opportunity to inspire and entertain the audience.
McIntosh continued her success by contributing to Canada’s bronze medal in the women’s 4×200 freestyle relay. The Canadian team recorded a time of 7:52.74, trailing behind Australia and the United States.
In other events, Tristan Jankovics and Lorne Wigginton represented Canada in the men’s 400 IM, finishing in 7th and 8th place, respectively. Meanwhile, Taylor Ruck achieved a commendable fifth place in the women’s 100 free.
